Something Comforting: A Book Club for Self-Care

  • At One Studio 127 Buckley Street Essendon, VIC, 3040 Australia (map)

Something Comforting is a friendly and supportive group where like-minded people can connect and inspire one another through the shared experience of reading.

We explore a wide range of mostly non-fiction books, covering topics such as yoga, philosophy, mental health & self-development, using these texts to generate meaningful conversations and explore new perspectives.

We meet every 4-6 weeks to discuss our discoveries over tea and snacks (or BYO dinner!)

TEXT FOR THIS DATE: The Comfort Book by Matt Haig

To think about whilst reading: are there any chapters that particularly resonate with you and why? What would be listed in your ‘Comfort Book’?

This will be our last in-person meet of 2024, so we’re inviting you to take part in our Something Comforting ‘Secret Santa’! Simply wrap up a non-fiction book that you have enjoyed reading (can be bought new or pre-loved) and bring it along. All the books will be put in put in a pile and we’ll each select one at random to unwrap.

$14 per person. FREE for At One Members.

Please note our usual 4 hour cancellation policy applies. Limited space. Booking is essential!

FAQs

  • You will need to bring your own copy of the book to the event. Many books can be found second hand, online or be borrowed from a library.

  • Not at all :) We know how busy life gets and although of course this book club encourages you to read regularly, if you don't manage to finish the book in time for the event do not stress! You will still be able to take part in the group discussions.

  • Although we encourage you to read the suggested book, if you don't manage to before the event you are still more than welcome to attend! The texts will be used to inspire general conversation and prompt group discussions, so you will definitely be able to participate in these regardless of whether you have read the book.

  • Definitely! We recommend highlighting extracts, making notes and/or journalling as you read so that you can get the most of each book and bring any insights along to share with the group.

  • Of course not. There is never any pressure to share something if you're not comfortable doing so. Each participant is responsible for creating their own boundaries as well as respecting those of others.

  • Absolutely! Suggestions always welcome.
